Why is Omega-3 important?
Omega-3 fatty acids are fats that cannot be generated naturally in the body. Not created indigenously in the body, this form of essential fat is necessary for survival. If we go into the study of foods that provide omega-3 fatty acids, these include fishes and other seafood types(including tuna, salmon, herring, sardines, etc), nuts, and seeds(including chia seeds and walnuts, etc), and essential plant oils(including soybean oil, canola oil, flaxseed oil).
Two very crucial forms of fatty acids including-EPA and DHA are found in certain fishes. The third and the other very essential form of fatty acids include plant sources. This is ALA- alpha-linolenic acid. Well, now since we know the essential omega-3 fatty acids, we should also consider why they are important and the major health benefits that are associated with them.
1) A reduced risk of cardiovascular disease
The consumption of omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of death by cardiovascular disease. The intake of omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the resting blood pressure and also may lead to a decrease in the body fat levels. This thereby leads to an improvement in overall heart health.
2) Lowers the rate of depression and improves mental health
Studies have proved that food with higher levels of omega-3 has resulted in lower levels of depression altogether. The fish oil is used as a supplement in providing high levels of omega-3 that help to improve the state of mental health. In the recent past, the consumption of omega-3 has given promising results against mood disorders.
3) Higher omega-3 intake means reduced inflammation
The consumption of omega-3 reduces the risk of inflammation through the destruction of the molecules and substances that are associated with inflammation. The fish oil supplements again play a vital role here since they contain a specific level of omega-3 fatty acids that keep the regulation of certain components in the blood thus keeping them in an active state.
4) Omega-3 supplements improve liver function
Omega-3 supplements have shown to improve the functioning of the liver. Fatty liver might be a problem for many people nowadays. Omega-3 supplements taken by some of the patients might be beneficial in case they possess a non-alcoholic fatty liver. Reducing fats in your liver, omega-3 improves overall liver health.
Omega-3 is an answer to all the safety concerns regarding one’s health
Omega-3 fish oil contains both docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA).These acts as the essential nutrients that help the body in maintaining the overall heart health. They help lowering the blood pressure and also improve functioning. Coming with comprehensive health benefits, the omega-3 fatty acids are the “good” types of fat that your body can’t make naturally.
