An ancient grape reborn. Derthona—the historic Roman name of Tortona—pays tribute to the roots of one of Piedmont’s most fascinating native white grape varieties: Timorasso. After centuries of obscurity, Timorasso was reintroduced in 1987, and today it thrives once more in the rolling clay and marl hills of the Colli Tortonesi, a unique terroir in southeastern Piedmont defined by excellent sun exposure, mild climate, and balanced rainfall.
This wine challenges expectations. With its brilliant straw-yellow color tending toward gold, Derthona reveals a refined, complex bouquet with floral, almond, and light resinous notes, occasionally reminiscent of hydrocarbons—an indicator of its aging potential. On the palate, it's structured and vibrant, combining a marked minerality with a broad, clean finish and lively acidity. A white wine with the soul and aging potential of a great red.
With only 200 hectares dedicated to this rare varietal, and an annual production of around 600,000 bottles, Timorasso remains a gem of Italian viticulture.
Varietal: 100% Timorasso
Area of Production: Colli Tortonesi – Volpeglino (Alessandria), Piedmont
Soil: Calcareous, clayey, with sandy tendencies
Altitude: 320–350 meters a.s.l.
Vinification: 6–8 hours maceration, soft pressing, fermentation and aging in stainless steel
Aging: 9 months in steel, followed by at least 24 months in bottle

Serving Temperature: 10–12°C
Pairings: Ideal with raw shellfish, grilled fish, and refined seafood dishes. In its aged version, it becomes an excellent match for white meats, truffle-based recipes, aged cheeses, and artisanal cured meats. A gastronomic wine that evolves beautifully over time, rewarding both immediate enjoyment and cellaring.
